SEPTEMBER FAVORITES
I’m coming up on 2 months postpartum, which has me really wanting to revisit what’s in my closet. The upside to being pregnant in the summer (both times) is that I mostly wore biker shorts and sundresses, with a handful of my favorite maternity items. Great for my budget but I’ve been feeling pretty uninspired in the wardrobe category. The downside to having 2 basically under 2 is that I’ve neglected my personal style, outside of what is super practical, for the past 3 years.
I’m starting to come out of the newborn fog and will soon “resurface” as a fellow mom friend calls it, so I’m excited to think about all the things I want to wear, now that I mostly have my bodily autonomy back (still a human jungle gym, milk factory, and toddler heavy-lifting champ). Fall is just around the corner which means it’s also starting to (finally) get cooler over here. Hooray for jackets and trousers and shoes that don’t show your toes…but it’s still hot so realistically I’m not fully committing to sleeves just yet. September happens to be my birthday month as well, so I’m adding a few things to my list that I added to my wish list.
Here are the things I’ve ben loving (and a few on my wish list!):
I will talk about this book to anyone who has an ear to listen but, On Our Best Behavior by Elise Loehnen is a must-read. Been loving a black silk skirt. It makes even a t-shirt look chic or you can pair it with a detailed top (like this one I wore to a rehearsal dinner). These lime green clogs from Sorel are a true man-repeller, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a single item of clothing that garners so much attention. Someone literally stops me every time I wear these out to ask where they are from! Been really into mermaid waves these days and this is my tried and true spray. Works great, doesn’t make my hair crunchy, and smells amazing. I am wearing these jeans from Rent The Runway almost every day and love them. They are such a flattering cut and so comfy. I’ve been loving RTR to try things like this out, without committing to buying—especially while I’m still in-between my pre-pregnancy size and figuring out my body.
I bought a half-frame camera this past Spring and it’s been such a low-lift way to incorporate shooting with film. It allows for double the amount of photos as a normal 35mm camera (about 72 exposures!). I carry it with me everywhere. I asked for this cute little ceramic dish for my birthday. I love how dainty it is, and it’s perfect for the narrow drawer in my closet where I keep my jewelry. I’ll put it out on display eventually when I don’t have a toddler grabbing everything at arm’s length :)
I am so excited about this blazer I just ordered from Sezane. I have been looking for a statement piece for my closet and I think this is it!
